A bamboo screen is a finished panel: culms, split culms or slats bound together with bamboo battens and black palm rope, ready to mount between posts or against an existing structure. No work on site, no drying time, no finishing afterwards.
The screens are made of Gigantochloa from Indonesia — Tali for the natural colour, Java for the dark brown. So this is tropical bamboo, not European Moso; we would rather say so plainly. They ship unlacquered, so the colour is free to weather.

Split bamboo culms, woven with black palm rope onto horizontal battens. More relief than slats, lighter than giant.
Whole bamboo culms on horizontal bamboo poles. The heaviest and most robust screen, and all but solid.
Natural screens are Tali (Gigantochloa apus): a warm straw yellow that drifts towards silver-grey outdoors. Dark screens are Java (Gigantochloa atroviolacea), naturally brown to almost black.
Both ship unlacquered. To hold the colour, treat the screen with a linseed-based oil when you put it up. Left untreated, a screen lasts five to fifteen years depending on profile and position.
